The legendary former Barcelona and Spain midfielder will stay with the Doha-based club until the end of the 2020 season, according to a statement released by Al Sadd on social media.

Xavi joined Al Sadd in 2015, originally on a two-year contract, after making more than 700 appearances for the Catalan giants.

He extended that by 12 months but the 38-year-old was widely expected to retire at the end of the Qatari domestic season.

However, he said earlier this month he would continue playing play until the end of this year at least and has now changed his mind again.

Since being in the Gulf he has been named as a global ambassador for the 2022 World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar, and has been widely tipped to coach the host side during the tournament.

World Cup winner Xavi won 133 caps for Spain and was also in a Barcelona side which took eight La Liga titles.

The announcement comes on the same day as former Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta officially announced he was moving to play in Japan’s J-League.

Even Messi Will Struggle At Manchester United – Paul Scholes

Published

on

Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes believes Manchester United have sunk so low that even Lionel Messi would struggle to shine for his old club at the moment.

Scholes claimed that United are turning into the new Liverpool while their old rivals and Manchester City laugh at them. And that Alexis Sanchez is too selfish to be a United player but can’t be sold because of the wages he was offered to turn down City.

He added:

Mourinho’s side will struggle to win the Premier League title with Romelu Lukaku leading the attack. Paul Pogba’s cockiness means he will switch off after showing everyone how good he is.

He’s ‘scared’ that United will lose their best players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford because of the way they have been treated by the manager.

The old Mourinho has gone and been replaced by a man who moans too much and cannot get the best out of his players.

Lionel Messi’s family brand Diego Maradona ‘ignorant’ for discrediting the Barcelona star

Lionel Messi‘s family have hit back at Diego Maradona after the Argentinian soccer legend launched an attack at the Barcelona star

During an interview on Mexican television, Maradona accused his fellow compatriot Lionel Messi of not being a natural leader for Argentina and urged his country to stop treating the Barcelona icon as a ‘God’. Read previous report here.

Now Messi’s cousin Maxi Biancucchi has hit back by saying Maradona was ‘ignorant’ over his comments.

The 34-year-old, a professional footballer with second division Paraguayan side Rubio Nu who is nicknamed El Primo de Messi – Spanish for Messi’s cousin – raged: ‘It’s ignorant to discredit Leo.

‘It’s sad to see how someone who boasts of being a leader can talk so badly about a player who’s currently the best we’ve got and will probably be so for a long time yet.

And he’s done it at a time when he should be helping to rebuild if he loves the national side as he says he does.’

SHOCKING!!! Match Fixing Probe Into PSG’s 6 – 1 Champions League Win Over Red Star

Published

on

French authorities are investigating potential match-fixing in Paris St-Germain’s 6-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade this month.

A Red Star official allegedly placed a bet of almost 5m euros (£4.3m) for the Serbian club to lose by five goals, reported French newspaper L’Equipe.

The French National Finance Prosecutor (PNF) is investigating the claims after being alerted by Uefa.

Both clubs have denied any wrongdoing.

A Red Star statement read: “FC Red Star with the highest anger and abomination rejects the story.

“The article can harm and bring big damage to our club’s reputation and that is why we insist that Uefa and investigators in Serbia and in France investigate the whole story and get the truth.

“Today’s technologies and other mechanisms are so improved that it is basically impossible to leave this case unsolved.

“Red Star expects to get the truth at short notice and remove any doubt about our involvement in possible wrongdoing.”

In a statement, PSG expressed their “amazement and indignation”.

They added: “Paris Saint-Germain reiterates its commitment to a fundamental principle of sport, that of the integrity of competitions and therefore refutes any form of practice that could call into question that integrity.”
