Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Suleiman Hunkuyi, his counterpart from Kaduna North Senatorial District, has left the ruling party as well.
Tom Maiyashi, Chairman of the Akida faction and Ja’afaru Abas Ibrahim, legal adviser of the Restoration Group, announced the decision of the two groups at a joint press conference in Kaduna on Friday.
Senators Sani and Hunkuyi, who have been engaged in a long-running rivalry with Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of the state, belong to the ‘Akida’ and ‘Restoration Group’ factions of the party respectively.
“This joint press conference is the culmination of extensive reviews and consultations over the state of the All Progressives, Congress (APC) in Kaduna state as well as in the nation,” Maiyashi said.
“As you will appreciate, groups such as ours that had been on the frontline of the efforts to keep our party along the lines of survival, accountability and integrity, will be diligent in ensuring that whatever steps we take, are consistent with our high sense of responsibility.
“We are satisfied that the positions we have arrived at are in the best interests of our members and the ongoing efforts to create options and strategies that will rid our nation of undeserved and avoidable challenges.
“Members of our two groups have decided to leave the APC because it is incapable of accommodating and responding to well-meaning dissent, criticism and demands for inclusiveness and internal democracy.”
The two groups advised their teeming members to formalise their withdrawal from the APC.
Maiyasshi did not disclose the party to be joined by the two groups, but he confirmed that discussions were going on with “political parties that share their values and principles”.
“We want to commend the resilience and commitment of our members in the face of institutionalised exclusion, marginalisation and abuse. We urge them all to keep faith,” he said.
Celebrity Butt-enhancement Surgeon, Dr Bumbum Arrested Over Death Of Patient (Photo)
His mother, accused of being an accomplice, was also arrested. Furtado was considered capable of performing magic on women’s bodies, in particular their bottoms, and became known throughout the country for his expertise.
The 45-year-old’s Instagram account reflects his popularity with 650,000 followers. But he had been on the run since Sunday over the death of a bank employee named Lilian Quezia Calixto, who perished hours after a buttock enlargement procedure at Furtado’s home in the upmarket Barra de Tijuca neighbourhood of Rio.
Calixto had travelled 1,250 miles from her home to see the surgeon. She underwent surgery on Saturday and started feeling sick soon thereafter.
Upon arriving at hospital on Sunday, she was suffering from a racing heart-beat and hypertension, and after four heart attacks she died.
Soon after, Furtado disappeared. He now faces charges of homicide and criminal association. Furtado used a controversial technique in his buttock improvement surgery, injecting a substance called acrylic glass.
The news has caused shockwaves throughout the industry Brazil is second only to the United States for the number of plastic surgeries carried out.
The Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society (SBPC) was quick to denounce Furtado, saying “the growing invasion of non-specialists in the specialty has provoked more and more fatalities like this one.”
“You cannot perform plastic surgery inside an apartment. Many people are selling a dream, a fantasy to patients in an unethical way and people, weakened, are often attracted to low prices, without considering whether or not the conditions are adequate,” SBPC president Niveo Steffen told AFP.
Steffen said the injection of synthetic biopolymers or polymers, like acrylic glass, is very dangerous and has caused dozens of deaths among women in Latin America, especially in Venezuela.
‘He’s Not Going Anywhere’ — Oshiomhole Insists Ortom Won’t Join ‘People Deceiving People’ (PDP)
Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has insisted that the ruling party will not let Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue State, out of its sight.
In the middle of a power tussle with George Akume, a serving senator and former Governor of Benue, Ortom announced on Monday that he had been red-carded from the APC and was standing outside the pitch ‘like a free man” waiting to join another club.
On Wednesday, he met some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, ahead of an anticipated defection to the erstwhile ruling party.
However, after a closed-door meeting with Ortom at the party secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Oshiomole said that the APC does not have a red card, and therefore cannot give what it doesn’t have.
“Senator Akume is a very respected leader of the party; he is former Governor, a current senator, and he will recognize the need for peace and we have what it takes to make peace,” Oshiomhole told journalists after the meeting.
“In Benue, we are going for a win/win solution. Governor Ortom is not going anywhere. He is a very prominent member of our party and we appreciate his leadership in Benue and we will do everything possible to help those who have issues to have these issues resolved. The only thing will we not accept is anybody leaving the house we have toiled to build together.
“APC does not even have a red card, so we can’t give what we don’t have and we recognize that there could be legitimate legal issues like agreement, disagreement and contestation, and these we are familiar with. They are the evidence that we are a democratic party. When leaders have disagreements, it is to help them and find a common ground and issues in Benue are not so fundamental that they cannot be resolved. We are very confident that we will resolve them.
“For the PDP hovering round, they must know that only people without honor will vomit in the morning and in the afternoon they convert it to lunch. People like Ortom who have honour cannot leave PDP three and half ago with his eyes open and then two, three years later there are some tension in his master bedroom and he is thinking of returning to ‘People Deceiving People’.
“I mean, that cannot be an option. He is a man of honor, he knows that once you make one step forward you take the second step to consolidate the first step and that is the way to go.”
Buhari Asks Fayose To ‘Concede Defeat Gallantly’
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Ayodele Fayose, the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State whose anointed candidate Kolapo Eleka lost the Ekiti State governorship election, “to be gallant in conceding defeat”.
Buhari said this in his congratulatory message to Kayode Fayemi, candidate of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 197,459 votes to Eleka’s 178,121.
He also urged “the losers” to use constitutional means to settle whatever grievances they may have rather than resort to self-help.
“President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on winning the Ekiti State governorship election,” read a statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
“The President commends the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and all party supporters for the hard-fought victory after a dignified campaign.
“President Buhari urges the governor-elect and APC members to be magnanimous in victory as the incoming administration prepares to unfold a new lease of life for the people of Ekiti State through purposeful and responsible governance.
“He commends the people of the State for their matured and peaceful conduct as they made their choice using the power of the ballot. President Buhari also lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adequate preparations and displaying impartiality throughout the process.
“He applauds the security agencies for creating the right atmosphere for the relatively peaceful conduct of the polls and urges them to sustain the peace. He also commends local and international observers and monitors for their vigilance and contributions towards the relatively hitch-free exercise.
“The President urges the losers to be gallant in conceding defeat and use constitutional means to settle whatever grievances they may have rather than resort to self-help.
“President Buhari appeals to all stakeholders in Ekiti State to work towards a successful transition to a new administration in the higher interest of not only the State but the entire nation and its fledgling democratic experience. In all this, the people of Ekiti State have spoken loud and clear, and democracy has won again.”
